Overview
Add a time slider and age perspective to Wikipedia.
TimeView adds a timeline and a people-focused view to Wikipedia. While you read an article, see the people linked from that page in the browser sidebar. Move through the years to compare their ages and life stages, and understand the era behind the story. Turn the people you are reading about into timeline images and figure cards, or create a video that moves through the years. Keep reading notes, bring a lesson to life, or share what you have discovered. Explore people on a Wikipedia timeline • Start with the article you are reading and see its linked people in the extension sidebar. • Drag the timeline or adjust the year range to see each person’s age and whether they were living, not yet born, or already deceased. • Color-coded cards visualize gender and life states, making it easy to follow the changes from not yet born to living and deceased as the year changes. • Click a figure card to open that person’s Wikipedia article and continue exploring their life and connections. Create timeline images and figure cards • On a person’s Wikipedia article, select Export in the sidebar to open Card Maker. • Arrange the people, adjust the card layout, and choose a 3:4 portrait or 16:9 landscape frame. • Save a selected year as a PNG image, or generate an MP4 video that progresses through the years. • Show names, ages, and life states together, so changes over time are easy to follow. Made for reading, teaching, and sharing • Reading notes: save a view of the people at a particular year and keep track of connections you discover. • Teaching: compare the ages and life stages of people from the same era, using images and videos to support a lesson. • Sharing: create portrait or landscape timelines for presentations and social posts. Getting started Install TimeView, open a Wikipedia article, and click the extension icon to open the sidebar. To create an image or video, open a person’s article and select Export. Free features and optional membership TimeView is free to install and use for its core features. Optional membership unlocks the complete list of linked people in the sidebar. Timeline and figure-card image and video generation is available to all users. Start with a Wikipedia article. Follow the timeline to see different lives in the same era.
