Stop opening a converter tab for every timestamp. Every developer hits the same small friction a dozen times a day. A log line says 1788277662. A JWT payload says "exp": 1788281262. A database column says 1788277662000. None of it means anything at a glance, and the usual fix is to open a new tab, find a conversion site, paste, squint, copy the result, and come back to what you were doing. Timestamp Toolbox collapses that loop into your toolbar, your right-click menu, and a keyboard shortcut. A converter that runs in both directions Click the toolbar icon — or press Alt+T — and you get the layout you already know from every timestamp tool, done properly. At the top, the current Unix timestamp ticks live, with Start, Stop and Refresh. Stop freezes the number so you can select it without it changing under your cursor, which sounds trivial until the first time you need it. Switch between seconds and milliseconds, and click the number to copy it. Below that, Unix timestamp to time: paste any timestamp and read the result in your chosen time zone. The unit dropdown covers seconds, milliseconds, microseconds and nanoseconds, or leave it on Auto and the digit count decides — 10 digits are seconds, 13 are milliseconds, 16 microseconds, 19 nanoseconds. The same field also accepts human dates: 2024-05-01 16:00, 2024-05-01T08:00:00Z, 2024/05/01, 2024年5月1日, or an ISO string with an offset. Under the result, three more rows give you UTC, ISO 8601 with the correct offset, and seconds alongside milliseconds. Click any row to copy just that value. Third, time to Unix timestamp: six fields for year, month, day, hour, minute and second, plus one-tap shortcuts for Now, Today 0:00, Next hour, Yesterday and Tomorrow. Pick seconds or milliseconds for the output and copy it. Enter a date that does not exist — February 31, say — and you get a clear message instead of a silently wrong number that quietly rolls into March. Everything converts as you type. The Convert button is still there when you want it, and pressing it also copies the result, so a common round trip is: paste, Enter, done. Convert what is already on the screen You do not always want to open the popup. Select a number or a date anywhere on a page, right-click, and choose Convert. A small card appears in the corner with the local time, UTC, seconds and milliseconds; click any line to copy it. The selection does not need to be clean — select a whole log line and the extension finds the timestamp inside it. The same menu copies the current timestamp in seconds or milliseconds without opening anything at all. An LED clock worth leaving open The extension also ships a full-page seven-segment clock, drawn entirely in CSS: unlit segments stay faintly visible the way they do on real hardware, lit segments glow, and they fade out a beat slower than they light up. Six colors, 12 or 24 hour, seconds on or off, and a thin bar under the digits tracking the current minute. Press T and the display swaps: the big digits become the live Unix timestamp and the line underneath becomes the clock. It is a surprisingly good way to keep an eye on epoch time while you work. Press W to keep the screen awake so it can sit on a second monitor as a desk clock. Press F for full screen, where the interface disappears until you move the mouse. The tab title shows the time, so you can read the clock from the tab strip while it is in the background. There are no on-screen buttons to get in the way — the shortcut line at the bottom is the entire manual. Correct across time zones, including the awkward parts Time zone handling is the part most converters quietly get wrong. This one derives offsets from the browser's own IANA data, so historical dates use the rules that were in force then, not today's. Daylight saving transitions behave the way date libraries such as Luxon behave: a time that does not exist because the clock jumped forward — 02:30 on a spring-forward morning in New York — folds forward to 03:30 rather than producing nonsense, and a time that happens twice in autumn resolves to the first occurrence. Half-hour and quarter-hour zones such as India and Nepal work correctly. None of this needs a bundled time zone database. Choose any IANA zone in settings, or follow the system. Pick a date format from the presets or write your own with tokens (YYYY, MM, DD, HH, hh, A, mm, ss, SSS, ddd, MMMM, Z, X, x, and [literal text]) with a live preview as you type. Decide whether bare numbers should always be read as seconds, always as milliseconds, or judged by their length. Sixteen languages, with local conventions The interface ships in English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Hindi, Vietnamese, Turkish, Polish, Ukrainian and Indonesian. It follows your browser's language by default, and you can override it in settings. Date conventions follow the language rather than being pinned to one style: English defaults to MM/DD/YYYY with a 12-hour clock, German and Russian to DD.MM.YYYY, French and Spanish to DD/MM/YYYY, Chinese, Japanese and Korean to YYYY-MM-DD. Weekday names, month names and relative phrasing ("3 minutes ago") come from the browser's own locale data. Private by construction The extension makes no network requests. There is no analytics, no account, no telemetry, and nothing is ever sent anywhere — every conversion happens locally in your browser. Settings are stored with Chrome's own sync storage so they follow your profile across devices. The permissions are deliberately narrow: storage for your settings, contextMenus for the right-click entry, and activeTab plus scripting so the result card can be drawn on the page you right-clicked — only that tab, only at that moment. There is no host permission and no access to any site otherwise. Free, no sign-up, no upsell.
