Tidewell – Bookmark Manager & Cleaner

Tidewell cleans up years of bookmarks without the guesswork, and without putting your data at risk. This is the first release: every change can be undone, and feedback is very welcome (see Help → Questions in the extension). FIND DEAD LINKS, WITH FEWER FALSE ALARMS • Checks every bookmark and shows which pages are gone (404, 410, or the domain no longer exists). • Sites that block automated checks are marked "Check manually" instead of "dead", so you are far less likely to delete a working link by mistake. • Moved pages: update the bookmark to its new address in one click. • Dead pages: open the Wayback Machine copy before you delete. • Pause, resume, or check only the links you haven't checked yet. REMOVE DUPLICATES • Finds the same page saved more than once, even if the copies differ by http/https, "www", a trailing slash or tracking tags. • Choose which copy to keep: the oldest, the newest, the most recently opened, or the one in the top-most folder. CLEAN UP IN BULK • Remove bookmarks you haven't opened in X days, or that are older than X days. • Remove empty folders, including ones that only contain other empty folders. • Merge folders with the same name that sit side by side. • Strip tracking parameters (utm_source, fbclid…) from URLs. • Switch old http:// bookmarks to HTTPS: each site is tested first, and only the ones that work over HTTPS are switched. SEE AND SEARCH EVERYTHING • One fast list of all your bookmarks, even 50,000 of them. Search, filter by website, folder, or "never opened", and sort by date. • A folder tree you can widen by dragging, with expand all / collapse all for deep collections. • Create, rename and delete folders, or make a new one right while moving bookmarks. • Start fresh: move all your bookmarks into one new folder in a single step (undoable). • Select many bookmarks at once to move, delete, export, copy or check them. • Edit a bookmark's title or address. • Statistics: bookmarks per year and month, top websites, links never opened, link health. IMPORT & EXPORT • Standard bookmarks HTML files, the format all major browsers use for import and export, plus a JSON backup. • Export a plain list of addresses (.txt), or copy the addresses of selected bookmarks. • Imports go into their own folder and can skip bookmarks you already have. SAFE BY DESIGN • Deletions and clean-ups show a preview first, and every change (delete, move, edit, import) can be undone. • A backup is saved before every change, and you can download what was removed. • An ignore list for websites or bookmarks you want left alone. LOOKS THE WAY YOU LIKE • Light, dark, or automatic to match your system. • Five color palettes, including a high-contrast one. PRIVATE • No servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads. • Website access is optional: it is requested only when you run a link check or the HTTPS test, and you can revoke it at any time in Tidewell's Settings or at chrome://extensions. • Checks go straight from your browser to each bookmarked site, on your behalf, like opening the page (following its redirects, without cookies). Nothing is sent to us or anyone else.
