This release is our biggest update yet: a complete rebuild that makes the game faster, sharper, smarter, and playable in 43 languages. Whether you want a quick 30-second break or a real challenge against an unbeatable opponent, everything is one click away from your toolbar. WHAT'S NEW IN THIS VERSION Play right away, the way you expect Before, a solo player's clicks would simply alternate between X and O, which felt broken to anyone playing alone. Now the game defaults to You vs. Computer, and a simple mode picker lets you switch between playing the computer and 2-player pass-and-play on the same device. You choose whether you play as X or O and who moves first. Three honest difficulty levels Pick Easy for a relaxed game, Medium for a genuine match, or Impossible for our perfect-play engine that will never, ever lose. Manage a draw against Impossible and you've truly mastered the board. Keep score The game now tracks your wins, losses, and draws automatically and remembers them between sessions. A one-tap reset clears the tally whenever you want a fresh start. Play in the popup or a full tab The board now lives right inside the toolbar popup, so you can play a round without leaving the page you're on. Want more room? "Open in a tab" gives you the full-screen experience instead. A board that finally looks sharp We rebuilt the rendering to stay crisp on every screen, including the high-DPI and scaled displays used by most laptops and all Macs, where the board used to look blurry. Smooth animations draw in each X and O, highlight the winning line, and add subtle hover feedback as you play. Dark mode and sound The game now follows your system's light or dark theme automatically, or you can lock one in. Gentle sound effects mark your moves, wins, and draws — with a mute toggle that remembers your choice. Need a hand? Ask for a hint A single tap reveals the best available move, powered by the same engine that runs Impossible mode. It's a great way to learn winning strategy and get out of tricky spots. The AI Lab — something no other Tic Tac Toe extension offers For the curious, we've revived a hidden gem: a neural-network training lab where you can evolve your own AI opponent using a genetic algorithm, then test yourself against the brain you built. Built for everyone Full keyboard support (arrow keys and Enter), visible focus rings, and a screen-reader live region that announces every move and result make the game fully playable without a mouse. We also respect your system's "reduced motion" setting. Your settings, your way A new options page lets you set your preferred difficulty, starting side, sound, and theme once — and your choices sync across the devices where you're signed in. FIXES AND UNDER-THE-HOOD IMPROVEMENTS • Undo now works properly against the computer: it rewinds your own move instead of being instantly overwritten by the AI's reply. • Every on-screen message — "X wins!", "It's a draw!", turn indicators, and all buttons — is now fully translated in every one of the 43 supported languages, not just English. • The popup tagline, previously shown in English in 41 of the languages, is now correctly localized everywhere. • Restarting a game no longer leaves the new round stuck in a frozen "paused" state. • We removed the fake one-second "Thinking…" delay; the computer now responds instantly and snappily. • Fixed edge-of-board misclicks and tidied up exactly when buttons are enabled, disabled, or hidden. SMALLER, SAFER, FASTER We stripped out roughly 40% of the old package, including the outdated jQuery library — which carried known security vulnerabilities — along with a pile of unused code. The result installs faster, runs lighter, and passes browser security review more cleanly, so future updates reach you sooner. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Tic Tac Toe runs completely offline. We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. The only things ever stored are your scores and preferences — kept locally on your device, and synced through your own browser account only if you choose. PLAY IN YOUR LANGUAGE The entire game is available in 43 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Hindi, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Japanese, Korean, and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese, plus many more.
