This Week — Minimal New Tab

A calm, minimal new tab that asks one question every Monday: what is this week for? No accounts, no tracking, no network calls.

Most new tab extensions fill the page. This one empties it. Every Monday, This Week asks a single question: what is this week for? You answer in one line. For the rest of the week, that line is all your new tab shows. When the week turns, it asks whether it happened — and records your answer without scoring it. That's the whole thing. WHY A WEEK A day is too short to mean anything and a year is too long to feel. A week is the unit a life is actually lived in — and if you live to eighty you get about four thousand of them. This Week is built on that idea, from Oliver Burkeman's book Four Thousand Weeks. It is not affiliated with the author or publisher. WHAT IT DOES • Asks one question a week, and shows your answer back to you all week • "Setting aside" — name what this week is NOT for, which is half the decision • Closes the loop: it happened / some of it / it didn't • Keeps an archive of what you said mattered and what actually happened • Optional life-in-weeks grid, counting weeks lived rather than weeks left • Export everything as plain text, any time WHAT IT DELIBERATELY DOES NOT DO • No streaks. No completion rate. No percentages. Nothing to keep up. • No to-do list. One line a week, not a backlog. • No quotes, no clock, no weather, no shortcuts, no widgets. • No nagging. "Leave this week open" is a real answer and it sticks. • It never steals focus, so typing a URL the moment a tab opens works exactly as it did before. DISCREET MODE — FOR OPEN-PLAN DESKS The entries most worth writing are the ones you least want read over your shoulder. Turn on discreet mode and the page stays blank — not blurred, blank, which looks no different from a week you left open. Hold Shift, or hover the small label, to read it. The first new tab each morning shows the week plainly; every tab after that is blank. The archive is covered too. PRIVACY One permission: storage. No network requests of any kind — not analytics, not fonts, not error reporting. Nothing you write leaves your browser. There is no account to create and no server to trust. Your entries sync between your own Chrome profiles through Chrome's built-in sync, and "erase everything" in settings deletes all of it. This extension replaces your new tab page. Remove it at any time from chrome://extensions and Chrome restores the default.
