The organisms floating serenely in the water are Moon Jellyfish (Aurelia aurita). Over my career of thirty years, I have found that their elegant simplicity is what makes them so captivating. Their bells are incredibly transparent, allowing for a clear view of the four distinct horseshoe-shaped gonads and the delicate radial canals within. These gentle creatures are propelled by the rhythmic pulsation of their gelatinous bodies, a movement that is both efficient and mesmerizing. Moon Jellyfish rely on very short, fine tentacles to capture tiny plankton from the water column. This species demonstrates a timeless, successful body plan, proving that complex life doesn't always require a complex form to thrive.
