The distinctive fish with the zebra-like stripes is a Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni). After my long career observing diverse marine species, I am particularly impressed by this fish's elegant and complex fin structure. The alternating black and white bands on its body, along with the prominent white dots on its fins, provide a striking contrast against its underwater habitat. This species is unique due to its incredibly limited natural range, found only around the Banggai Islands of Indonesia. They are also known for their remarkable reproductive behavior, where the male of the species is a mouthbrooder, holding the eggs and young fry in his mouth for an extended period. This dedicated parental care helps ensure the survival of their offspring in the wild.
