This remarkable marine animal is a Porcupine Puffer (Diodon holocanthus), an expert at deterring predators. Unlike its close relative, the pufferfish, which has spines that are only visible when it inflates, the porcupine puffer's sharp quills are always present and act as a constant visual warning. When faced with danger, this fish has the incredible ability to rapidly gulp water or air, expanding its body into a round, spiky sphere.
