Perched calmly on a smooth, rustic branch, this plump, small parrot is a Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus), exhibiting the wild-type green and yellow coloration. The breast and belly are a clean, brilliant green, a color that would provide excellent crypsis in its native Australian grassland habitats. The birds head is a bright, clear lemon-yellow, which extends to the forehead. A complex pattern of fine black scalloping is visible on the back of the head and wings, contrasting sharply with the yellow base. The face features a bold blue cere and a few black throat spots. Its slightly fluffed posture and its attentive gaze showcase the robust yet amiable nature of this highly social and successful desert nomad.
