Thaumic Cast
Overview
Cast tab audio to Sonos over your local network. Self-hosted, fast, private. Requires the Thaumic Cast desktop app or server.
Thaumic Cast streams audio from a browser tab to your Sonos speakers over your local network. It is self-hosted, which means it runs on your machine and stays on your network. No accounts. No cloud. Just sound going where you told it to. This extension is one half of the system: - The extension captures audio from a browser tab. - The Thaumic Cast Desktop app (or headless server) running on the same computer receives it and streams it to Sonos. Getting started: 1. Download and run the Thaumic Cast Desktop app (or headless server) from the latest release: https://github.com/brew-lab/thaumic-cast/releases/latest 2. Install this extension. 3. Click the extension, pick a Sonos group, and start streaming. Notes: - The extension connects to your local Thaumic Cast server on http://localhost:49400 (it may use ports 49400 to 49410). - If you use a firewall, allow 49400 to 49410 over TCP. Permissions: - Tab capture: required to capture audio from the tab you choose. - Tabs: required to identify and manage the tab you are streaming. - Storage: saves settings like your preferred server port. - Power: helps keep streaming stable during long playback. - Host access to localhost: used to talk to the local Thaumic Cast companion app. Project and support: https://github.com/brew-lab/thaumic-cast Trademark note: Sonos is a trademark of Sonos, Inc. This project is not affiliated with Sonos.
