Your browser, on your Sonos. Thaumic Cast plays whatever a browser tab is playing on your Sonos speakers, over your own network. Music, radio, a podcast, the sound of a video: if a tab can play it, your rooms can too. No account, no cloud, no ads, no trackers. The audio goes from your browser to your speakers and not one step further. What it does - Cast any tab to one room or several. Rooms you pick play in step as one Sonos group, and each keeps its own volume. - Different tabs, different rooms. Kitchen gets jazz. Office gets "focus". Up to 10 casts at once. - No AirPlay needed. It works from Windows, macOS and Linux, and with Sonos speakers that have no AirPlay. - Lossless by default, with lighter settings for busy networks. - Play, pause and skip from the extension, and a new cast never starts louder than you have allowed. Two pieces, one button Thaumic Cast comes in two parts. This extension lives in your browser and takes the sound from a tab. A free companion app, the Thaumic Cast desktop app or the headless server, runs on a computer on your network and hands the sound to your speakers. Getting started 1. Download the companion for Windows, macOS or Linux from the latest release: https://github.com/brew-lab/thaumic-cast/releases/latest 2. Install this extension. 3. Open it, pick your rooms and press Cast. A short tour finds the companion and your rooms the first time. Good to know - The extension finds the companion on this computer at http://localhost, ports 49400 to 49410. If a firewall asks, allow those ports over TCP. - The companion can also run on another computer on your network. Enter its address in Settings, and your browser asks your permission for that address first. Permissions, and why - Tab capture: takes the sound from the tab you choose to cast, and only that tab. - Offscreen document: does the audio work in the background while you browse. - Reading the pages you visit, active tab and scripting: a small script on each page reads what it is playing (title, artwork, play and pause) so the extension can show it and control it. It keeps nothing and sends it nowhere but the extension. Video sync, if you turn it on, also uses this to keep a page's video in time with the speakers. - Storage: keeps your settings and saved sets on your device. - Power: stops the computer sleeping in the middle of a cast. - Access to localhost: talks to the companion app on this computer.
