It just doesn't work. Some mild debugging shows a few syntax errors related to case-sensitivity, hardcoded team collection name, etc.

I removed the hardcoded DefaultCollection team name. Will look into the syntax errors.

Conceptually, this is exactly what I'm looking for. My development team needs a persistent chat and it would be ideal to have it embedded in TFS where we do all our work. Currently, we use Jabber as our preferred tool and haven't transitioned to a TFS room primarily due to the lack of a visual cue or alert when a new message is received. Unfortunately, this extension is not providing that very promised feature: notification. Is there server side configuration necessary?

There is no server side configuration necessary. But you need to have the team room page opened and allow the extension to show notifications. Do you have perhaps have errors/warnings in your console window?
