Text Expander by ByteForth is a text expander for Chrome that turns short keyboard shortcuts into reusable text snippets, email templates, and canned responses in the website text fields you already use. Create a shortcut such as ;signature, add your text, and press Space after typing the shortcut. Prefer choosing a template by name? Open the searchable quick-insert palette with Ctrl+Shift+Space. TEXT EXPANSION THAT WORKS WHERE YOU DO • Save reusable text snippets, canned responses, email templates, and quick replies without a fixed snippet-count paywall. Browser storage limits apply. • Search and edit your snippet library with a live preview. • Insert dates and times, choose random greeting variations, and position the cursor with template placeholders. • Enable optional clipboard access to drop copied text into a template. • Expand with instant shortcuts, or choose Space, Enter, Tab, and punctuation as trigger keys. • Pause text expansion globally or on selected websites. • Back up your library with JSON, or import/export shortcut, name, and content using CSV. • Choose light, dark, or system appearance. YOUR WORDS STAY UNDER YOUR CONTROL Free features need no account. Expansion works offline. Snippets and settings use Chrome extension storage and may sync through your Google account when Chrome Sync is enabled. Larger libraries or sync failures fall back to this device. ByteForth does not receive your snippet content or typed text. There are no ads or extension analytics. COMPATIBILITY: WHERE EXPANSION WORKS — AND WHERE IT MAY NOT Works with standard text inputs, textareas, and many contenteditable fields on HTTP/HTTPS websites. Complex editors, canvas editors such as Google Docs, browser pages, PDFs, and the Chrome Web Store may not support insertion. Use the popup’s copy action and paste manually in those cases. Copy keeps template placeholders as written.
