Tengil! — YouTube Listening Practice

Tengil! makes listening practice simple with YouTube.

Hear more. One sentence at a time. “Tengil” means “to hear” in Amis, an Indigenous language of Taiwan. Tengil! brings focused listening practice to the YouTube watch page. Listen first, save the parts you want to hear again, then read along and return to your review list. You do not have to understand every sentence on the first listen. Start in four steps: 1. Listen: Open a YouTube video with an accessible transcript and check that Tengil! is ON in the player controls. Keep subtitles hidden for your first listen if you prefer. 2. Save: Press the default E shortcut or click the bookmark icon to save the sentence at the playback position to that video's review list. 3. Read: Press the default R shortcut to open the Review panel, then choose Subtitles to see transcript segments in chronological order. 4. Review: Switch to Review and use a sentence's replay button to listen again. Remove saved items when you no longer need them. Practice at your own pace: 1. Interval practice: Define a listening interval. Playback pauses at its endpoint; you can play the interval again when you are ready. 2. Sentence review: Keep the parts you want to practice and revisit them in video order. 3. Transcript view: Browse accessible subtitles organized into listening segments and replay them. 4. Personal settings: Adjust the save shortcut and target transcript segment duration. 5. Local storage: Settings, video identifiers, transcript text, saved sentences, and related learning state are stored in your current Chrome profile. Tengil! does not currently provide an account or cloud sync. Before you install: Transcript display, sentence saving and transcript-based review require an accessible YouTube transcript. Availability and accuracy depend on the video and YouTube. Not every video is supported. Segments are grouped by timing; they are not guaranteed to be complete grammatical sentences. Tengil! does not generate missing captions. AI translation, word definitions and advanced explanations are not available in this version. Some interface entries may still be visible for features that are not yet available. The interface currently combines Traditional Chinese controls with English tab labels; an English store listing does not imply a fully English interface.
