Teams Recording & Transcript Downloader

Save a Teams or Stream meeting recording as video, audio or a transcript with speaker names and timestamps.

Save a Microsoft Teams or SharePoint Stream meeting recording the way you actually need it: the video, the audio on its own, and the transcript with every speaker name and timestamp intact. The player has no single place to do all three. This adds one item to the player's own command bar, right after Playlist, and puts all three behind it. ━━ WHAT IT DOES, AND WHAT IT DOESN'T ━━ It saves what your own browser session has already loaded and is already showing you, in a form you can keep. The rule is simple: If you can watch the recording and read its transcript in your browser, you can save the video, the audio and the transcript. It asks for no elevated access, signs you in as nobody, opens nothing you could not open yourself, and does nothing at all for a recording you cannot already watch. Use it for your own meetings and for recordings you have been given access to, and in line with whatever your organisation's own rules are about the meetings you take part in. A meeting recording usually has other people in it; treat what you save the way you would treat anything else they said to you. ━━ WHAT YOU GET ━━ ▪ Video — the recording as a single flat MP4 that plays anywhere, seeks properly, and reports its duration correctly. ▪ Audio — the meeting's audio on its own as an M4A, rebuilt as a flat MP4 container rather than left in the fragmented form the CDN serves. Fragmented audio has no duration and cannot be scrubbed in much of what an audio export gets taken to; this can. ▪ Transcript — in four formats: • TXT — readable, with a header (duration, cue and turn counts, speakers, language) and one line per speaking turn: [00:00:03] Dana Whitfield: Hello everyone, thanks for joining. • VTT — WebVTT with <v Speaker> tags, cue timings untouched • SRT — subtitles with a Speaker: prefix, ready for a video editor • JSON — {start, end, speaker, text} per cue, for anything you script Teams splits a single sentence across three or four cues; consecutive cues from the same speaker are merged back into one turn, so the TXT reads like a transcript instead of a caption file. ━━ HOW IT FITS THE PAGE ━━ ▪ In the command bar, not over the player. The Download item sits with Record, Upload, Favorite and Playlist, inherits the bar's own spacing, and follows the tenant's light or dark theme. Nothing floats over the seek bar. ▪ One click for the transcript. The menu row shows the format you used last — "Transcript (TXT) · en-us" — and its submenu holds the other three. The choice is remembered. ▪ The language is on the row before you press anything, so you know a transcript exists without opening the pane. ▪ Every download opens a Save As dialog, so the MP4, the M4A and the transcript can go straight into the project folder they belong to instead of into Downloads. Cancelling is a normal outcome, and is reported as one. ▪ One naming stem for all three, so a recording and the things taken from it stay together: Quarterly review-20260824_210222-Meeting Recording.mp4 Quarterly review-20260824_210222-Meeting Recording.m4a Quarterly review-20260824_210222-Meeting Recording.transcript.txt ▪ Progress is reported in a small corner panel while a download runs, and it goes away when there is nothing to say. ━━ PRIVACY ━━ ▪ Everything happens in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, no server is involved, there is no account, no analytics and no tracking of any kind. ▪ Two permissions, both structural: • downloads — Chrome offers no other way to raise a Save As dialog • storage — remembers which transcript format you last chose ▪ It reads only the recording page you are already viewing, and only the recording you have already been given access to. It grants no access to anything you could not open yourself. ━━ WHERE IT WORKS ━━ ▪ SharePoint / OneDrive Stream player pages (…/_layouts/15/stream.aspx) — the full Download menu in the player's command bar. ▪ The Teams meeting recap, in the browser. A recap opened inside the Teams desktop app is out of reach — a Chrome extension cannot run there, and no extension can. Use the recording's "Watch in browser" link: the recap opens as a normal tab, and the same Video / Transcript / Audio choices appear in a small panel in the corner, which is also where progress is reported. (The recap embed has no command bar of its own, which is why the panel exists.) ▪ Any recording you can already open and play. If the transcript row is not labelled yet, open the player's transcript pane and let it fill, then press again — the transcript has to have loaded once in your session.
