The photo shows a date palm in the fruiting stage: The trunk is tall and straight, with thick, scaly brown bark typical of palms. The leaves are long, thin and pointed, spreading out from the top of the trunk in a fan shape, giving the tree its characteristic desert appearance. The young date palms grow in large, dense clusters, green in color. Each cluster consists of hundreds of small round or oval fruits, growing on long, bright yellow stalks.
