Tax forms use unfamiliar terms such as AGI, MAGI, Box 12 code DD, and qualifying surviving spouse. Tax Helper adds an in-page help button beside tax-form fields and explains what each field generally means, where people commonly find the requested information, and mistakes to avoid. COMMON FIELDS WORK FREE AND OFFLINE The built-in glossary explains common United States, United Kingdom, Canadian, and Australian tax terms without an account, an API key, or a network request. OPTIONAL EXTENDED EXPLANATIONS If you add your own Anthropic API key, you can request more detail for unfamiliar fields. Online explanations are available in 12 languages. An online request is sent only after you click an explanation action or use the keyboard shortcut. Values entered into form fields are never included. WHAT TAX HELPER CAN DO • Explain common fields from their labels, headings, and visible choices. • Show an offline document checklist for a recognized tax form. • Give a plain-language overview of a form section. • Flag likely formatting mistakes locally, such as an SSN with the wrong number of digits. • Link to official IRS, HMRC, CRA, or ATO instructions for verification. • Open a private offline companion beside PDF tax forms, without reading or capturing the PDF. • Run on supported tax sites or on another site only after you grant access to that exact site. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Common explanations run entirely on your device. • Values entered in form fields are never sent to Arc & Ledger or Anthropic. • On-page format checks run locally and do not send values to the extension background worker. • Sensitive patterns found in nearby page text are redacted before an optional online request. • Your API key and settings are stored locally in Chrome, not synced. • The extension has no advertising, analytics, tracking pixels, or data sale.
