TaskPort: ChatGPT to Word, Excel & PDF
Overview
Save any ChatGPT chat as a document or spreadsheet in one click. Tables stay real tables. Runs 100% locally in your browser.
Turn any ChatGPT conversation into a real, editable file — one click, no copy-paste. Copying text out of a chat is lossy: tables collapse into a wall of unaligned text, code blocks lose their indentation, headings flatten, and long threads have to be scrolled by hand before anything is even selectable. TaskPort fixes all of it. In one click it produces a report-ready Word document, or a spreadsheet you can actually calculate with. A clean PDF comes out just as easily for anything you need to send someone. People do this to keep a record of their work, hand results to a client, or get the numbers out of a conversation and into a spreadsheet. Most of what it does is free forever, with no account and no time limit. Word and PDF output, whole-chat capture and the local library are part of Pro, a single $19 payment with no subscription. The next section spells out which is which, so there are no surprises after you install. WHAT YOU CAN EXPORT Everything free has no time limit and no account. Your notes app gets a clean Markdown file with optional YAML front matter, so it drops straight into Obsidian, Logseq or Notion. A raw HTML or plain-text copy is there too if that suits your workflow better. The first table in any conversation converts into a real spreadsheet as well — actual numbers you can sum in Excel, not text that only looks like numbers, saved so accented and non-Latin characters open correctly. The one-time Pro upgrade rounds it out. A genuine Word document — not an HTML file wearing a different extension — complete with working hyperlinks, bordered tables and monospaced code blocks. A clean PDF through Chrome's own print pipeline that keeps everything intact. Every table in a conversation instead of just the first one, each landing on its own named worksheet. And a single zip archive bundling all of the above, with each code block saved as its own source file. THE PART OTHERS GET WRONG When you export a ChatGPT table to Excel, the numbers have to arrive as numbers. In TaskPort, a cell reading 1,299.00 becomes the value 1299 that you can SUM, and 72.5% becomes 0.725. Most tools dump every cell as text, which looks right until you try to add a column and Excel returns zero. Headers are detected and styled, columns are sized to their content, and each table lands on its own named worksheet instead of being crammed into one sheet. BUILT FOR LONG CONVERSATIONS (PRO) ChatGPT only keeps part of a long thread loaded in the page at a time. That is why manual copy-paste — and most similar extensions — silently miss messages from earlier in the chat. Pro scrolls the whole conversation first, waits for older messages to load, and captures every turn before writing the file. A hundred-message conversation exports in full. The free tier exports everything currently on screen, instantly. For short chats that is usually the whole thing. SEARCHABLE LOCAL LIBRARY (PRO, OPTIONAL) Turn it on and TaskPort keeps a copy of everything you save in this browser. Search across all of it — including inside code blocks and tables — and produce it again later in any format, without reopening the original chat. It is off by default, it never syncs anywhere, and you can clear it with one click. PRIVACY — THE PART WORTH READING TaskPort contains no network code at all. Not "we promise not to look" — there is literally no fetch, no XMLHttpRequest, no WebSocket, no analytics SDK anywhere in the source. Your conversations are read from the page, converted in your browser, and written straight to your Downloads folder. • No account, no sign-up, no login — on either tier • No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking • The local library never leaves your machine • Site access is limited to chatgpt.com — TaskPort cannot read any other website unless you explicitly click "Capture this page anyway" on a tab you have open • Open source, unminified — read every line before you trust it The project's automated tests include a check that fails the build if any network API ever appears in the source. The privacy claim is enforced, not just promised. HOW TO USE IT 1. Open any conversation on chatgpt.com 2. Click the blue TaskPort button at the bottom right, or press Alt+Shift+E 3. Pick a format — the file lands in your Downloads folder The toolbar icon opens the same options if you prefer, and Alt+Shift+X opens that popup. WHAT IS FREE AND WHAT IS PRO The free tier has no time limit and needs no account. Pro is a one-off $19 payment — no subscription, no renewal — that adds the two document formats, full-length capture on long threads, complete spreadsheet output, the all-in-one archive, and the searchable local library. Pro is unlocked with a licence key that is verified on your own device using cryptography. There is no activation server and no account — buying it adds no network activity to the extension whatsoever. The privacy guarantee above applies identically to free and paid users. ALSO WORTH KNOWING • No ads, no watermarks on anything, and no account required for any tier • Works offline; everything is generated on your own machine • Maths survives: KaTeX formulas are extracted as their original LaTeX instead of scrambled glyphs • Unicode survives: Japanese, Arabic, Cyrillic, accented characters and emoji all round-trip correctly • Code blocks keep their language, their indentation, and exclude the "Copy code" button text • Custom file naming with {title}, {date} and {time} tokens TaskPort is an independent project.
