)Overview
Groups, deduplicates, sorts and tidies your tab groups automatically.
tap-tap keeps your tab strip organised without asking you to think about it. It groups tabs by the site they came from, names each group after the site, and keeps those groups in order. Open a few YouTube tabs and they become a YouTube group. Follow a link somewhere else and that tab leaves the group on its own. Come back, and it is filed again. Set it up once, and then forget it is there. WHAT IT DOES • Groups tabs by site. One group per site, named and coloured the same way every time, created once a window holds enough tabs from that site to be worth grouping. • Merges duplicate groups. Chrome's own sync can leave you with two groups of the same name sitting side by side. tap-tap folds them into one, keeping the older group and whatever it is called. • Collapses what you are not using. A group you have not touched for a while folds itself away, so the strip stays short. • Keeps things in order. Groups along the strip, and the tabs inside each group, sorted either by name or by when you opened them. • Closes tabs before or after the one you right-click, within that tab's group rather than across the whole strip. • Optionally closes tabs you have not looked at in a long time, and takes groups you have stopped using apart, so they do not collect in the bookmarks bar as saved groups. WHAT IT WILL NOT DO tap-tap manages the groups it made. A group you named yourself stays yours: it is never renamed, never taken apart, and its tabs are never closed. The most it will do is file a new tab from that same site into it, so your tabs end up beside the ones they belong with. A tab you drag out of a group stays out. tap-tap will not put it back until you send that tab somewhere else. Anything that closes a tab is off until you turn it on. Even then, pinned tabs, tabs playing audio, and the tab you are looking at are never closed. SETTINGS Group tabs by site, by full subdomain, or automatically — where a site stays whole, but a front door to separate products like Google gives Gmail and Calendar their own groups. Choose how many tabs from a site it takes to start a group, and how few it takes to dissolve one. Choose how long a group sits untouched before it folds away, and whether idle groups are taken apart or inactive tabs closed at all. PRIVACY tap-tap asks for no access to the content of any web page. It reads tab addresses to work out which site each tab belongs to, and that never leaves your browser. Nothing is collected, nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no analytics of any kind. Your settings travel with your Chrome account, so every device you sign in on behaves the same way. Your tabs and groups are not copied anywhere by this extension.
