talavarp
Overview
Translated subtitle overlay for RÚV (ruv.is) — 17 languages, fully localized UI.
Many programmes on ruv.is carry Icelandic subtitles but no translations. talavarp fetches those Icelandic subtitles, translates them into any of 17 languages, and overlays them on the video — synced, styleable, and optional. - One click per tab: open a programme, click talavarp, turn subtitles on. - 17 languages: English, Polish, Spanish, Romanian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Russian, Filipino, Arabic (right-to-left supported), Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian, Portuguese, Vietnamese, German, Czech, Greek — the languages Iceland actually speaks. - The extension UI itself speaks your language too. - Optionally show the original Icelandic line above the translation. - VLC-style subtitle options: font size, colours, outline, background, position, alignment, timing delay, line height, letter spacing — live, on the video, with balanced line breaks (no orphan words). - Language-learner mode: keep the last subtitle on screen until the next one appears. - Works in fullscreen. - Translations are cached locally, so re-watching is instant. - Free built-in translation (rough but serviceable), or plug in your own Google Gemini API key for noticeably better quality. - Tells you clearly when a programme has no Icelandic subtitles to translate. talavarp is independent and not affiliated with RÚV. It collects no personal data and contains no analytics — see the privacy policy. Feedback: https://github.com/afhverjuekki/talavarp_feedback/issues
