Overview
Save and restore Chrome tab sessions with group names, colors, and collapsed state preserved. Local-first; no account.
Recover the structure of your workspace—not just a list of links. Tabwell is a local-first Chrome session manager for controlled recovery across multiple windows. One snapshot preserves window boundaries, tab order, pinned and active tabs, plus every native tab group’s name, color, and collapsed state. Inspect the snapshot, then open the full bundle, one source window, selected groups, or selected tabs. No separate account is required. THE 1.1 RECOVERY GENERATION Version 1.1 introduced multi-window bundles, a durable local recovery journal, Gentle Restore for large sessions, and failure-safe Save & close and Replace current flows. Version 1.1.1 was the first tester-driven hardening release, improving maximized and fullscreen window reconstruction, crash-versus-graceful-close detection, restart-safe loading, rollback ownership checks, whole-window selection, and busy and focus feedback. CONTROLLED RECOVERY - With recovery protection enabled and a completed checkpoint available, the journal distinguishes a normal whole-browser close from a real crash and can offer the latest completed checkpoint. - Gentle Restore loads large sessions gradually through a bounded placeholder pool and can continue after an MV3 service-worker or full-profile restart. Stop ends coordination but intentionally leaves placeholder tabs already created open. - Save & close verifies durable persistence before closing unchanged source tabs. Replace current requires confirmation and keeps a rollback path; it is limited to a one-window snapshot because Chrome cannot make restore and close atomic across windows. LOCAL-FIRST AND PORTABLE Saved sessions, titles, URLs, and the search index stay in your Chrome profile. There is no behavioral or usage analytics, and the extension requests no broad website host access. Billing uses your connection IP to choose checkout currency and sends it to Polar only when you start checkout; no tab or saved workspace data is sent. Free includes export and import of portable native JSON backups. PLANS Every install starts with a 14-day free trial of Pro; no credit card is required. Afterward, Free remains available with the latest 5 saved sessions, manual save and restore, JSON backup, and 60-minute automatic snapshots. To prevent data loss, dismissing or partially restoring a crash checkpoint can temporarily retain one extra manual recovery snapshot until the next ordinary save reapplies the cap. Pro adds unlimited snapshots, search, supported third-party importers, shorter automatic intervals, and priority email support. US reference prices: $3.99/month, $29/year, $59 one-time; Founders Lifetime is $19 one-time for the first 1000 buyers.
