Overview

Turn any site into an installable, tabbed web app by managing its manifest.

Turn any website into an app with tabs. Chrome can install websites as apps, but the site decides how that app behaves, and many sites don't support it at all. Tabulous puts you in charge. Choose the name, icon and which pages belong to the app, and get tabbed app windows: several pages of the same site open as tabs in one app window. WHAT IT DOES • Tabbed app windows, with a pinned home tab and a new tab button. • Keeps you in the app. Choose which part of the site counts as the app, so moving between pages doesn't bring up the address bar. For example, Messenger installed from a conversation normally treats every other page as outside the app. Tabulous fixes that. • Makes any site installable, even ones that don't support it, with your choice of name, icon, colours and shortcuts. • Builds a clean app icon from the site's own, including a full-size icon for the macOS Dock. HOW TO USE IT 1. Open the site, click the Tabulous icon and choose Add in Tabulous. 2. Check the name, icon, start page and tab settings, then click Done. 3. Install it from Chrome's menu: ⋮ › Cast, save and share › Install page as app. If you'd already installed the site as an app, uninstall that one first. For more control, Edit all settings opens a full editor. It shows a live preview and has a tester that tells you whether a given page will stay in the app. TABBED WINDOWS NEED CHROME FLAGS Tabbed app windows are still experimental in desktop Chrome. When you install Tabulous, it opens a setup page with a button for each Chrome flag you need. Turn them on and relaunch Chrome. Without the flags, your apps still work but open as ordinary single-window apps. If an app should have tabs but doesn't, the Tabulous icon shows a "!" and offers the setup again. PRIVACY AND PERMISSIONS • Tabulous only runs on sites you add, and asks for access one site at a time. • Your settings stay on your device. Tabulous doesn't collect or send your data anywhere. The only requests it makes are to the site you're setting up, to read its name and icons. • A few sites have a security setting that blocks Tabulous. If you choose to, Tabulous can switch that setting off for that one site, and you can undo it. This makes the site less protected against some attacks, so only do it for sites you trust.
