Overview
Automatic time tracking by browser tab group, mapped to your clients and retainers.
Tabtime automatically tracks your work time using Chrome tab groups — so freelancers and agencies can see hours against each client retainer without starting timers or switching tools. HOW IT WORKS 1. Create a Chrome tab group for each client and give it a name (e.g. "Northwind Studio"). 2. Pair the extension with your Tabtime dashboard using a one-time device token. 3. Work normally. Tabtime tracks time while you browse inside named groups and syncs to your dashboard. Your tab groups are your clients. Switch tabs inside the same group and the timer keeps running. Move to a different group or leave grouped tabs and Tabtime logs the session and maps it to the right client. FEATURES • Automatic tracking — no manual timers • One live timer per tab group • Per-site breakdown (domain-level time inside each group) • Retainer usage on your Tabtime dashboard • Idle detection — stops tracking when you step away • Pause / resume from the popup • Syncs every ~30 seconds and on tab changes • Works with Tabtime’s Cursor extension for code + browser time in one place POPUP Open the toolbar icon to see: • Whether you’re actively tracking • Live elapsed time for the current group • Today’s breakdown by group • Sync status with your dashboard SETUP 1. Sign up at your Tabtime dashboard 2. Create clients and map them to your Chrome tab-group names 3. Dashboard → Settings → Generate Chrome device token 4. Extension Options → paste your dashboard URL and token → Save PRIVACY & DATA Tabtime only tracks tabs inside named Chrome tab groups. Ungrouped tabs and chrome:// pages are ignored. When tracking, the extension records: • Tab group name • Website domain (hostname only — not full URLs or page content) • Start/end time and duration Data is sent only to your paired Tabtime dashboard. You control your account and can delete tracked data from the dashboard at any time. REQUIREMENTS • A Tabtime account and dashboard (tabtime.app or your self-hosted instance) • Named Chrome tab groups for the clients you want to track WHO IT’S FOR Freelancers, consultants, and small agencies who organize client work in browser tab groups and need simple, automatic time tracking against monthly or weekly retainers.
