Overview
Save tabs without accidental closes. Sync across devices with Google sign-in. Search, organize, and restore your tabs.
TabStash is a tab management extension that gives you full control over how and when your tabs are saved. Unlike traditional tab managers that immediately close all tabs when you click the icon, TabStash opens a confirmation popup first — letting you choose between saving tabs while keeping them open, or saving and closing them. No more losing your work to an accidental click. SAFE TAB SAVING When you click the TabStash icon in your toolbar, a popup appears showing your currently open tabs and two clear options: Save tabs (keep open) — Bookmarks all your open tabs into a group without closing anything. Perfect for creating a snapshot of your current session while you keep working. Save & close all tabs — Saves your tabs and then closes them, freeing up memory and decluttering your browser. A new tab is automatically opened so your window stays active. This two-step approach eliminates the most common frustration with tab-saving extensions: accidentally closing dozens of tabs you were still using. ORGANIZE YOUR SAVED TABS Every time you save, TabStash creates a tab group stamped with the date and time. In the full management page, you can: Rename groups — Click any group name to edit it. Label your sessions "Work project," "Research," "Shopping," or whatever makes sense to you. Lock important groups — Toggle the lock icon on any group to prevent accidental deletion. Locked groups cannot be removed until you explicitly unlock them. Drag to reorder — Rearrange your tab groups by dragging them up or down. Put your most important sessions at the top. Expand and collapse — Click a group header to show or hide its individual tabs. The first group is expanded by default for quick access. Delete individual tabs — Hover over any tab to reveal a remove button. Clean up a group without deleting the whole thing. Restore tabs — Open all tabs in a group with one click, or click any individual tab link to open just that one. SEARCH ACROSS ALL SAVED TABS The search bar at the top of the management page filters across all your saved tabs instantly. Type a keyword and TabStash shows only the groups and tabs that match by title or URL. Useful when you have hundreds of saved tabs and need to find that one article from last week. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS For power users who prefer the keyboard: Alt+Shift+S — Save all tabs in the current window (keep them open) Alt+Shift+W — Save and close all tabs in the current window These shortcuts work globally in Chrome without needing to open the popup first. SYNC ACROSS DEVICES WITH GOOGLE SIGN-IN Sign in with your Google account to sync your saved tabs across multiple browsers and computers. Your tab data is stored securely in Firebase cloud storage under your personal account. When you sign in on a new device, TabStash automatically merges your local and cloud data — no tabs are lost in the process. Cloud sync is entirely optional. TabStash works perfectly as a local-only tool if you prefer not to sign in. EXPORT AND IMPORT Back up your saved tabs as a JSON file at any time using the Export button. Import that file on another browser or after a fresh install to restore all your tab groups. This works independently of the cloud sync feature — even if you never sign in, you can still move your data between machines. BILINGUAL INTERFACE TabStash includes a built-in language toggle supporting English and Chinese (中文). Switch between languages with a single click in the popup or the management page. Your language preference is saved and persists across sessions. DARK MODE TabStash automatically follows your system color scheme. If your operating system is set to dark mode, TabStash renders in dark mode too — no manual toggle needed. MEMORY SAVINGS The management page shows an estimate of how much memory you have freed by closing saved tabs. Each tab typically uses around 50 MB of RAM, so saving and closing 20 tabs can reclaim roughly 1 GB of memory. PRIVACY TabStash only accesses your tab data when you explicitly click "Save." It does not run in the background, does not track your browsing history, and does not collect analytics. If you enable cloud sync, your tab URLs and titles are stored in Firebase Firestore under your authenticated Google account. No data is shared with third parties. You can delete all cloud data by signing out or by deleting your tab groups in the management page. TabStash is open and transparent — all code is bundled locally in the extension with no remotely hosted scripts.
