Tabshift: Custom New Tab URL

Set any URL, dashboard, localhost or file as your new tab. No flash, cursor in the address bar, shift between pages in one click.

Tabshift opens any URL as your new tab: your inbox, a team wiki, a dashboard, localhost:3000, or a file on your computer. The browser has no setting for this, and many redirect extensions flash white and lose your cursor on the way. Tabshift does neither. It's built to feel like nothing at all: • No flash. Tabshift sends you on before the tab paints, in your theme's colours, so dark mode stays dark. • No loops. Back from your page never throws you forward again. • The cursor where you want it. In the address bar, where the browser puts it, so you can type straight away. Or in the page, for sites with their own search box. Keep more than one page: • Shift between them from the toolbar in one click, by right-clicking the Tabshift button, or with a keyboard shortcut. • Shuffle: a different page from your list each time you open a tab yourself, not when a link opens one. • Use this page: one click makes the site you're on your new tab. • The browser's own new tab and a blank page are always there too. It understands the addresses you actually type. notion.so gets https, localhost:3000 and 192.168.1.1 get http, a path like /Users/you/start.html becomes a file, and browser pages like chrome:// and edge:// work. When a URL can't work, like a data: address or a file before you've allowed file access, Tabshift tells you why in one sentence and offers the fix. Private by design: • One permission warning, "Replace the page you see when opening a new tab", which every extension that changes that page shows. • No access to the sites you visit. No network, no account, no analytics. • Your pages sync with your browser profile, and nothing is sent anywhere else. If you use Hallway to switch between extensions like this one, Tabshift shows up in it on its own. Private windows (Incognito, InPrivate) keep the browser's own new tab, because extensions can't change it there.
