TabQueue – Open Tabs in Order
Overview
Loads new background tabs one at a time to reduce resource spikes.
Reduce sudden CPU, memory, and network usage by loading newly opened background tabs one at a time—or keep them discarded until you select them. TabQueue pauses background navigation at document start and maintains a persistent first-in, first-out queue. Tabs are then loaded individually in the exact order in which they were opened. The optional discarded-tab mode keeps background tabs unloaded until you activate them. ✨ FEATURES ⏸️ Automatic pausing — stop newly opened background tabs before they begin consuming unnecessary resources 🔢 Sequential loading — load queued tabs individually in their actual opening order 📥 Persistent FIFO queue — preserve the correct tab order even when Chrome suspends the Manifest V3 service worker 🌙 Discarded-tab mode — keep new background tabs unloaded until you select them 🖱️ Safe tab activation — selecting a queued tab removes it from the queue and loads it immediately ❌ Safe handling of closed tabs — continue processing without errors when waiting tabs are closed ⏻ Master switch — enable or disable all TabQueue behavior from the toolbar popup or options page ⌨️ Customizable keyboard shortcuts — toggle the extension or discarded-tab mode without opening the popup 💬 On-screen feedback — display the new status in the active page after using a shortcut ⚙️ Simple controls — manage both loading modes from a compact popup or full options page 🌐 Localized interface — available in English, German, and Japanese ⚡ Lightweight and focused — no advertisements, accounts, analytics, tracking, or remote code 🔐 PERMISSION REQUIREMENTS These permissions are required for its core features: • Storage — saves the enabled and discarded-tab preferences locally and retains a temporary queue of numeric tab IDs for the current browser session. • Website access — allows a small content script to run at the beginning of navigation so newly opened background tabs can be paused before they consume resources. The same script displays local shortcut-status notifications. TabQueue does not retain tab URLs, inspect page content, or request the Chrome tabs permission. It uses only temporary numeric tab IDs to manage the loading queue. 🛡️ PRIVACY TabQueue does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal information, browsing history, website content, tab URLs, settings, or usage analytics. The extension contains no advertising, tracking services, external servers, user accounts, or remotely hosted code. All queue processing and settings remain inside your browser. 🙏 CREDITS TabQueue is based on “Open tabs in order” by developer.waieight. and is published with the original developer’s permission. The original extension introduced the core approach of pausing newly opened background tabs and loading them sequentially: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/open-tabs-in-order/eapedfijdadehfmghgfdnanjlpfpognl TabQueue independently builds on that work with a persistent FIFO queue, safer handling of closed tabs, an optional discarded-tab mode, enable/disable controls, an options page, configurable keyboard shortcuts, on-screen status notifications, expanded localization, and reduced access to tab data.
