TabPlacer

Opens new tabs next to the current one, and moves focus to a neighbouring tab when you close one.

TabPlacer opens new tabs next to the one you are on, instead of at the far right of the tab strip. What it does: • New tab position — a tab created with Command+T / Ctrl+T, or with the + button, opens immediately to the right of the current tab. The same applies to tabs opened in the background and appended at the end, such as Command-clicking a bookmark. • Focus after closing — when you close the current tab, focus moves to the tab on its left; to the right only if there is nothing on the left; and nowhere at all if there is neither, in which case Chrome handles it. • Link child tabs — when you open links in the background, the newest child tab sits next to the tab it came from. You can switch this back to Chrome's own order. Each of the three can be turned off individually, which hands that behaviour back to Chrome entirely. On permissions: this extension requests only storage and alarms. It requests no host permissions and no tabs permission, so it cannot read your URLs, page content, or browsing history. Moving and activating tabs does not require the tabs permission — that permission exists to read a tab's URL, title and similar fields, and this extension does not need them. The interface is available in English and Simplified Chinese. It follows the browser language by default and can be set manually on the options page.
