Overview

Sleeps idle tabs under real memory pressure, wakes them back up automatically. Tracks RAM freed over time. Nothing closes for good.

TabNap keeps every tab you have open — it just stops letting them eat your RAM. Built with older and low-RAM laptops in mind: 4-8GB machines where a dozen Chrome tabs can be the difference between a smooth day and a frozen one. Most tab suspenders work off a dumb timer: a tab sits idle for N minutes, it gets discarded, whether your computer needed the memory back or not. TabNap instead watches your system's actual free memory and reacts to real pressure — sleeping more tabs when you need it, staying out of your way when you don't. WHAT IT DOES • Auto-sleeps idle background tabs, faster as memory pressure rises • Wakes sleeping tabs back up automatically as memory frees up, most-used tab first • Never touches your active tab, pinned tabs, anything playing audio, or anything on a call — Meet, Zoom, Teams, Discord, Webex are protected by default, and a grace period keeps a pressure sweep from ever touching a tab you only just switched away from • Fully configurable: set your own idle timeout and grace period to match how you actually work • Protect any site yourself with one click • Shows real, measured RAM savings — calculated from your device's own before/after memory readings, not a made-up number (marked experimental, since any live estimate like this can still drift with a noisy reading) • Full Memory Scan: an on-demand, one-tab-at-a-time scan that shows exactly how much RAM each of your open tabs is really holding WHAT IT DOESN'T DO No account. No analytics. No ads. Nothing about your browsing ever leaves your device — TabNap has no server to send it to, even if it wanted to. Full privacy policy linked below. Everything is reversible: a slept tab reloads the instant you click back into it. TabNap frees memory, not tabs. ISN'T THIS WHAT CHROME ALREADY DOES? Chrome's built-in Memory Saver does something similar — but it's a black box. No dashboard, no number, no way to tell it's actually working short of digging into chrome://settings/performance, and past ~20 tabs it gives you no real control. TabNap shows its work: live RAM status, a running total of what it's actually freed (measured, not estimated), and full control over what never gets touched.
