TabLock
Overview
Password-protect the pages and sites you choose. No accounts, no tracking — your data never leaves your device.
Lock the pages you don't want others to see. TabLock puts a password screen in front of any website or page you choose, so someone borrowing your computer can't open it without your password. YOUR DATA STAYS WITH YOU TabLock collects nothing about you. It has no account, no servers, no analytics, no tracking and no ads. Your protected sites, settings and passwords are stored only in your own browser, on your own device. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else. TabLock never reads, records or shares the content of the pages you visit or your browsing history. Uninstall TabLock and Chrome deletes everything it stored. ABOUT THE PERMISSIONS When you install TabLock, Chrome warns that it can "read and change all your data on all websites". That warning is standard for any extension that works on whatever site you pick, and TabLock can't know in advance which sites you'll want to lock. Here is what TabLock does with each permission. None of them sends data to us: • Access to websites: to check each page's address against your list and show the lock screen on the pages you chose. Pages that aren't on your list are left alone. • Tabs and navigation: to see which page a tab is on, so a protected page locks whenever you go to it, including in web apps that change pages without reloading. • Storage: to keep your list and settings on your device. • Idle: to re-lock pages after you step away. TabLock only learns whether you're active, idle or have locked your screen. All of this happens inside your browser. TabLock makes no network requests of its own. FEATURES • Lock a single page or a whole site, using an exact address or partial match • Simple Lock: covers the page with a lock screen • Secure Lock: stops the protected page from loading at all until you unlock it • Permanent locks, or one-time locks that remove themselves after you unlock • One master password for everything, plus optional passwords for individual sites • Security questions so you can get back in if you forget your password • Auto re-lock after a period of inactivity or when you lock your computer • Works in Incognito windows when you allow TabLock there in Chrome's extension settings • Lock other open tabs of the same site in one step HOW IT WORKS 1. Click the TabLock icon and create your master password and set answers to security questions. 2. Open a page you want to protect and click Activate Lock, or add sites in the Sites tab. 3. The next time anyone opens that page, they'll see the lock screen instead. SECURITY Your master password is never stored. TabLock keeps only a salted PBKDF2 hash of it. Site passwords and security answers are stored on your device as you typed them, so don't reuse a password there that protects something important elsewhere. TabLock is meant to stop casual snooping, such as a family member, roommate or coworker using your computer. It is not encryption, and it won't stop someone with full control of your computer or Chrome profile. GOOD TO KNOW • The user guide opens in a new tab when TabLock is installed or updated.
