Overview

Play along: chords, key and scales for the song you're watching.

Requires the free tabIt helper for macOS (installed with one command). tabIt shows the chords of the song you're watching on YouTube, right under the video, moving along with the music so you can play along on guitar. Click "Get chords" under any YouTube video. tabIt listens to the audio itself and builds the chart, so it doesn't depend on somebody having already transcribed the song. Live versions, a friend's demo and your own recordings work too. While the song plays: - The current chord is easy to spot, and the next one is flagged before it arrives so your hands are ready. - You also get the song's key and scales that fit it. - The whole chart is one click away if you'd rather read ahead. Honest about what it doesn't know: chord recognition is not perfect, and some songs will come out wrong. Where tabIt is unsure, the chord is shown softer instead of guessed at with false confidence. Treat it as a good starting point and trust your ears. How setup works: the first time, the extension shows three steps. Open Terminal, paste one command, press Return. That installs the helper on your Mac (about 2 GB of disk: a 1 GB environment plus the download cache; a few minutes, no admin password). The analysis happens on your own computer, not in the cloud. After that it starts by itself when you log in. Private by design: tabIt has no accounts and no tracking, and sends nothing to the developer. The helper downloads the audio of videos you ask about from YouTube onto your Mac, and keeps the finished charts there. Works on macOS only for now. The chord model is BTC (Park et al., ISMIR 2019). tabIt is open source: https://github.com/paolosand/tabIt
