TabDiet — tab memory diet
Overview
See which tabs eat memory, close duplicates, cap your tab count, freeze idle and minimized tabs, catch memory leaks.
TabDiet puts your browser on a memory diet — without losing a single tab you care about. ★ See what eats your memory • Every tab with its memory use, page size and a live sparkline • System RAM gauge and a running total for all tabs • Clear badges: duplicate, leak, frozen, protected, playing audio ★ Smart freeze for minimized windows Minimize YouTube, a web app or any window and leave it for 10 minutes: TabDiet unloads it from memory completely. Restore the window and the page comes back with the video at the very same second, still paused if it was paused. Music that's playing is never touched. ★ Tab limit Pick a maximum, say 30 tabs. Open one more and TabDiet closes the tab you haven't used for the longest time. Pinned tabs, tabs playing sound, forms with unsaved text and whitelisted sites are never closed, and one click brings anything back. ★ Autopilot Once you have 10+ tabs (your call), forgotten tabs are frozen, extra copies of the same page are frozen or closed, and leaky background tabs are reloaded. Emergency mode starts automatically when free RAM runs low. ★ Duplicates in one click TabDiet finds the same page open twice, even when the copies differ only by tracking tags (utm_*, fbclid, gclid) or anchors, and closes the extras. Changed your mind? Hit Undo. ★ Memory leak detection A healthy page doesn't grow while it sits in the background. TabDiet tracks DOM size and JS memory over time and flags tabs that keep growing. ★ Safe by default • Never touches the active tab, pinned tabs, audio/video, forms with unsaved text or your whitelist • Frozen tabs stay in place and reload when you click them • Every action is logged with its reason and the memory it freed • Keyboard shortcuts: Alt+Shift+T open · Alt+Shift+D close duplicates · Alt+Shift+F freeze background tabs ★ Private by design TabDiet works entirely on your device. No accounts, no analytics, no servers: nothing you browse ever leaves your browser. Works in Chrome, Brave and other Chromium-based browsers. Interface in English, Ukrainian and Russian. A note on numbers: extensions can't see a tab's full process memory (only the browser's Task Manager can). TabDiet measures each page's JS memory and DOM size, which is enough to find the heavy tabs and the leaky ones. For real-time numbers, start the browser with --enable-precise-memory-info; the settings page shows how.
