Tabagotchi – Pixel Pet Tab Manager
1 rating
)Overview
A retro pixel pet that lives in your browser and gets sick when you hoard tabs. Feed it, stash them, keep the streak.
Stop drowning in tabs. Adopt a pixel pet that only stays happy when you close them. Tabagotchi turns tab cleanup into a game. A tiny retro pet lives in your Chrome side panel and reacts to your open tab count in real time. Under control? It smiles and dances. Forty tabs deep? It gets stressed, then sick, then flatlines with crossed-out eyes. The fastest way to revive it is to close some tabs — which is exactly the point. It is a tab manager that actually makes you want to use it. ━━━ WHY PEOPLE KEEP IT ━━━ Most tab managers give you another list to ignore. Tabagotchi gives you a reason to act. The pet is always visible in the side panel, so tab clutter stops being invisible. Closing tabs feels like feeding something instead of doing chores. ━━━ WHAT IT DOES ━━━ 🍖 FEED — One click finds stale and duplicate tabs and closes them. You always see the full list first and can untick anything you want to keep. 💤 STASH — Saves the current window as a named session and clears it away. Restore the whole session later with one click, or export it as a JSON file for backup. 📋 OPEN TABS — A readable list of everything you have open. Two lines per tab, so you see the real title and the site instead of a truncated string. Duplicates, stale tabs, audio and sleeping tabs are flagged with clear icons. ↩️ UNDO — Reopens the entire batch you just closed. 🪦 GRAVEYARD — Every tab you close is kept for 7 days. Reopen any single one, or bring back the 15 most recent in one go. Nothing you close is ever unrecoverable. ⭐ XP, LEVELS & COMBOS — Earn snacks for every tab you close, chain closes for combo multipliers, unlock achievements and level your pet up. 🎮 FOUR PIXEL PETS — Blob, Cat, Dino and Duck, each hand-drawn with animation frames and distinct facial expressions for every mood. 🐣 MINI PET — A small draggable companion sits in the corner of your tabs with mood-based speech bubbles, so the pet is always in view no matter where you browse. Drag it anywhere; it remembers the spot. Not your thing? One click on PET: OFF hides it for good. ⚙️ YOUR THRESHOLDS — Sensible defaults out of the box, but you decide how many tabs count as happy, stressed or sick. A researcher with 60 tabs and a minimalist with 8 both get a pet that makes sense. ━━━ NO ACCOUNTS, NO TRACKING, ALL LOCAL ━━━ • No sign-up, no login, no account of any kind. • No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no ads. • No servers. Tabagotchi makes zero network requests — it works fully offline. • Nothing is ever uploaded, sold or shared. Your tab titles and URLs never leave your computer. • Everything lives in chrome.storage.local on your own device, and uninstalling deletes it. • No remote code. Every line the extension runs ships inside the package and is reviewable. ━━━ PERMISSIONS, IN PLAIN ENGLISH ━━━ Tabagotchi never prompts you at runtime. Everything is granted once at install, and here is what each part is for. • "tabs" — Chrome describes this as reading your browsing history. In practice it lets Tabagotchi read the title, URL and icon of tabs you have open right now, which is what powers the open-tab list, duplicate detection and the graveyard. It cannot see closed history, incognito windows, or anything you are not currently looking at. • "storage" — Saves your pet, XP and settings on your device. No warning. • "sidePanel" — Draws the pet in Chrome's side panel. No warning. • Page access ("Read and change all your data on all websites") — This sounds far broader than what Tabagotchi does with it. It is needed for one reason only: to draw the mini pet in the corner of your pages. The overlay lives in a closed shadow root, adds nothing but its own pet graphic, and never reads page text, form fields, or anything you type. Chrome has no narrower permission for "may add one element and read nothing", so this is the smallest option available. No data ever leaves your machine.
