Tab managers have one job, and the popular ones keep failing it. Search their reviews and you find the same story for years: an update landed, or Chrome was reinstalled, or the profile got reset, and hundreds of saved tabs were gone with no way back. Tab Vault is built around that failure. It saves every window you have open on a timer, keeps a long version history, and can rebuild itself completely from a file you control. HOW IT WORKS Tab Vault takes a snapshot of your open windows every five minutes, and again about thirty seconds after you finish opening or closing tabs. If nothing changed since the last snapshot, it does not save one — you get a real history, not two hundred identical copies. It keeps your last 120 automatic snapshots. Anything you save by hand, or mark as "keep indefinitely", is never removed to make room. RESTORING NEVER DESTROYS ANYTHING Open a snapshot and it stays in the vault. Restore a whole window, or click a single tab to open just that one. Nothing you restore is consumed, removed from the list, or marked as used. This sounds obvious. It is not how the popular alternatives behave. SEARCH EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER HAD OPEN One search box covers every tab in every snapshot. The article you closed three weeks ago and cannot name is findable by any word in its title or its URL. YOUR DATA CAN LEAVE WHENEVER YOU WANT Export the entire vault to a JSON file in one click. Import it back on any machine. If you are coming from OneTab, drop in a OneTab export and it becomes a snapshot. The export is the point. Storage on a single machine is one wiped profile away from nothing, no matter how careful the code is, so Tab Vault reminds you to take a copy rather than pretending local storage is safe. BUILT SO THAT ONE BAD WRITE CANNOT TAKE EVERYTHING Each snapshot is stored separately rather than in one large file that gets rewritten on every save. Rewriting a single shared file is why one interrupted write can wipe an entire history. Here, a failed write can damage at most one snapshot. The index is checked against what is actually stored every time Chrome starts, so the two cannot silently drift apart. Every delete can be undone. WHAT IT CANNOT DO, ON PURPOSE Tab Vault has no host permissions. It cannot read the content of any page you visit, and it never asks to. It makes no network requests of any kind. Not for analytics, not for icons, not for anything. Open your developer tools and check — that claim is meant to be verified, not trusted. There is no account and no sign-up. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere to upload it to. PERMISSIONS, IN PLAIN TERMS tabs — to read the titles and URLs of your open tabs.
