Tab Tamer
Overview
Aggressively snoozes inactive tabs to free memory — goes further than Chrome's Memory Saver. No access to your browsing data.
Too many tabs? Chrome can quietly use double-digit gigabytes of RAM — especially if you run several profiles at once. Chrome's built-in Memory Saver helps, but it's lazy: it leaves extensions, recently-used tabs, and audio tabs fully loaded. Tab Tamer is a tiny, privacy-respecting extension that snoozes background tabs on demand and on a tight timer. WHAT IT DOES • Snooze background tabs now — one click (or ⌘⇧Y / Ctrl+Shift+Y) instantly unloads every background tab in the window, freeing their memory. Perfect right before you open something heavy. • Auto-snooze — discards tabs you haven't touched in N minutes (default 10, much more aggressive than Memory Saver). • Safe by design — uses Chrome's native tab discard, so snoozed tabs stay in your tab strip and reload instantly when clicked. No URL rewriting, no lost state. • Never snoozes the active tab, pinned tabs, or tabs playing audio. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Tab Tamer asks for only two permissions — storage and alarms. It does NOT request the "tabs" permission, so it literally cannot read your URLs, page contents, or browsing history. No network requests, no analytics, nothing leaves your machine.
