Tab Stash
Overview
Group, archive, and recall tabs automatically. Clean tabs, clear mind — with optional AI-powered smart grouping.
Tab Stash is a Chrome extension for people who open too many tabs and feel anxious about closing them. You know the feeling: you searched something, opened 8 tabs, moved on, and three days later those tabs are still sitting there — important enough to keep, forgotten enough to ignore. Tab Stash fixes that in three moves: Group, Archive, Recall. ──────────────────────────────────── 📥 GROUP — One click, smart Chrome groups Hit "Group tabs" and Tab Stash instantly sorts your open, ungrouped tabs into named Chrome tab groups. • Built in, free, no API key needed — tabs are grouped by what they have in common: same site, same topic (News, Dev, AI, Shopping...), tabs opened from one another in the same browsing session, and similar titles. • AI grouping (optional) — add your own API key and every tab is sent to Claude or Gemini for smarter, cross-site organizing, using the built-in clustering as a hint. • Groups get a topic emoji and a clear name (🤖 AI, 📰 News, ✅ Todoist) instead of a raw domain. • Never touches tabs you've already grouped manually. ──────────────────────────────────── 🗄️ ARCHIVE — Silent, automatic cleanup Tabs you haven't touched in a while get quietly moved to a searchable archive. No popups, no notifications — they just disappear from your tab bar and live safely in the archive. • You control the aggressiveness: how long until a tab counts as "stale," and how often Tab Stash checks. • Pinned tabs, tabs playing audio, and grouped tabs are protected by default (configurable). • Scoring weighs recency (60%) and visit frequency (40%), so a tab you've visited several times stays safe even if your last visit was yesterday. ──────────────────────────────────── 🔍 RECALL — Instantly find and restore Open the full-page archive to browse everything Tab Stash has saved. • Search by title or domain, filter by Today / This Week / Older. • Restore one tab or many at once — reopening a tab that's already open just refocuses it instead of duplicating it. • Delete what you no longer need, or export your entire archive as JSON. ──────────────────────────────────── 🔒 PRIVACY FIRST • Fully local. Everything lives in IndexedDB and chrome.storage on your machine — nothing syncs to a server Tab Stash controls. • No account, no telemetry, no analytics. Tab Stash doesn't know you exist. • AI grouping is opt-in. If you add a key, only masked tab titles and minimal URL context (domain + first path segment) go directly to your chosen provider (Anthropic or Google) — never through a third-party server. Emails, phone numbers, and auth tokens are stripped before anything leaves your machine. ──────────────────────────────────── ✓ FEATURES AT A GLANCE ✓ One-click smart tab grouping — free, local, no API key required ✓ Optional AI grouping with Claude or Gemini (bring your own key) ✓ Auto-archive inactive tabs with a configurable recency/frequency score ✓ Full-page archive with search, date filters, and bulk restore ✓ Export archive as JSON ✓ Protects pinned, audio, and manually-grouped tabs ✓ At-a-glance popup stats: open tabs, groups, archived today ✓ Quick restore for recently archived tabs, right from the popup ✓ 100% local — no account, no sync, no cloud ──────────────────────────────────── 👤 WHO IS THIS FOR? Tab Stash is built for the Reluctant Hoarder — someone who opens 10-30 tabs across a couple of research threads, forgets about them, and feels a low-grade anxiety about closing them because they still feel like pending tasks. This isn't a tool for 200-tab power users or a bookmark replacement. It's a focused extension that quietly cleans up the mess and hands you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it. ──────────────────────────────────── ✨ WHAT'S NEW IN v0.0.2-beta • Smarter grouping — tabs are now clustered by topic, shared browsing session, and title similarity, not just domain. Runs entirely on-device, no API key needed. • Group names now show a topic emoji and a clearer label (e.g. 🤖 AI, 📰 News). • Fixed several mis-grouping cases: Google subdomains, Indian .gov.in government sites, and unrelated tabs being merged together. • "View full archive" now reuses an already-open archive tab instead of duplicating it. This is an early beta. Core functionality is complete and stable — feedback is very welcome at the support email below. ──────────────────────────────────── Questions, bugs, or ideas? myzticbean@proton.me
