Tab Sorter: Sort Tabs by Domain
Overview
Sort tabs by website in one click, find any open tab fast, and new tabs join their site's tabs. No groups, no reloads.
Tab Sorter puts tabs from the same website next to each other, helps you find any open tab in a second, and keeps things tidy as you browse. Sort in one click - Click the Tab Sorter icon and press "Sort tabs by domain", or use the keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+S by default) to sort without opening anything. - In every open window, tabs from the same website are moved side by side (for example all youtube.com tabs together, then all x.com tabs). - Tabs from the same website keep their original order. - The icon badge shows how many tabs the last sort actually moved ("0" if everything was already in place), and the popup says e.g. "Moved 5 tabs." or "Already sorted. No tabs moved." The number stays until your next sort; auto-move doesn't change it. Choose the order (Options page) - Default: websites appear in the order they were first opened in the window. - "Sort websites A to Z" (off by default): websites in alphabetical order instead. - "Remember my order" (off by default): drag tabs into the website order you like and Tab Sorter remembers it for next time. Remembered websites come first, in your order; websites it hasn't seen yet follow, A to Z if that's on, otherwise first opened. - "Reset order" forgets the remembered order and turns A to Z off, so sorting goes back to first opened. Find any tab - The popup has a search box that's ready to type in. It filters all open tabs in all windows as you type, by page title or web address, and shows each tab's icon, title and website. - Use the Up and Down arrows and press Enter, or click a result, to jump to that tab and its window. Auto-move - Open a new tab and go to a website that's already open in the same window, and the tab moves right after that website's tabs. - The same happens when you navigate an existing tab to a website that's open elsewhere in the window. - A website that isn't open yet stays where Chrome put it. Tabs you drag somewhere yourself stay there until they go to a different website. - Moving a tab doesn't reload it or change which tab you're looking at. Only the current window counts. On/off switches - The popup and Options page have two switches: "Tab Sorter" and "Auto-move new tabs". Both are on by default. - Turn Tab Sorter off to pause everything: sorting, the shortcut, auto-move and remembering your order. The icon shows a grey "OFF" badge, and tab search still works. - Turn Auto-move off to keep new tabs where Chrome opens them, while one-click sorting still works. Keyboard shortcut - Change the shortcut from the Options page: it shows the current shortcut and has a button that opens Chrome's shortcuts page (chrome://extensions/shortcuts), which is where Chrome lets you set extension shortcuts. Light and dark - The popup and Options page follow your Chrome or system light/dark setting automatically. What it doesn't do - It doesn't create tab groups. Tabs are only reordered. - It doesn't close, reload, or discard tabs. Pages keep their scroll position, form input and video playback. - It doesn't move pinned tabs, and pinned tabs aren't used as places to move other tabs to. - It doesn't move tabs between windows. Each window is sorted on its own. Privacy Tab Sorter collects no data and makes no network requests. It reads tab addresses and titles only on your device: to work out which website each tab belongs to when you sort or when a tab opens a website, and to search your tabs in the popup. Your settings and remembered website order are stored in Chrome's own extension storage. Nothing is sent anywhere.
