Overview

The Google Meet recorder that follows your mute: mute yourself and your mic drops from the recording. Local and private.

Tab Recorder is the meeting recorder that respects your mute. When you mute yourself in Google Meet, your microphone is dropped from the recording, and it comes right back when you unmute. Most recorders keep capturing your mic for the whole call. This one follows Meet, so your side is in the recording only when you actually spoke. A manual mic toggle is always there as a backup. It is also refreshingly simple and private. You click Record and the call is saved as a video file (webm) on your own computer. No account. No AI notetaker. No cloud upload by default. Nothing leaves your machine unless you choose to turn on the optional Google Drive backup and sign in. A small Record button shows up right inside your Google Meet call, so you never need the toolbar. Everything you record shows up in a clean local dashboard where you can play, rename, download, and delete. Long calls are fine too, because the recording is written to disk as it goes, so it does not fill up your memory. Features: - Follows your Google Meet mute: your mic is recorded only when you are unmuted, with a manual mic toggle as a backup - A Record button right inside Google Meet, no toolbar click needed - Records the current tab to a video file on your own computer - Optional "start recording when I join a meeting" - One click recording of the current tab from the popup too - Keeps recording when you switch tabs, minimize, or cover the window - You still hear the meeting while it records - A local dashboard to play, rename, download, and delete recordings - Handles long recordings of an hour or more without eating memory - Optional Google Drive backup that you turn on and sign into yourself About the optional Google Drive backup: - It is off until you turn it on in Settings and sign in with Google. - It uses the least privilege drive.file scope. The extension can only see and manage files it creates itself. It cannot read, list, or touch the rest of your Drive. - Your local copy is always kept. A backup is an extra copy, never a move. A failed upload can never lose a recording. - The developer never receives your recordings or your Google data. Your sign in token stays on your device. Privacy: - No analytics, no tracking, no ads. - With Drive backup off, which is the default, the extension makes no network calls at all. - It only runs on Google Meet pages and on its own pages. There are no broad site permissions.
