Overview

Grafana-style live dashboard of CPU, memory, JS heap, network, FPS and DOM size for the current tab.

Tab Pulse shows what the tab you're on is costing your computer, live, in a Grafana-style dashboard. Open it from the toolbar and it docks in Chrome's side panel, following whichever tab is active. Or pop it out into a full-page dashboard. WHAT YOU SEE • Tab CPU: how busy the page's main thread is, and how much of that is JavaScript • JS heap: memory used and allocated by the page's JavaScript • Network: bytes received per second • Frame rate (FPS): spot jank and dropped frames as they happen • DOM nodes: catch runaway DOM growth and leaks • System CPU and memory, for context Every panel has a crosshair tooltip and a Last / Min / Max / Avg legend. Switch between 1, 5 and 15 minute windows, or pause to inspect a spike. Dark theme by default, light theme when your system is set to light. TWO MODES • Basic mode (default) measures from inside the page: long tasks, frame rate, resource timing and DOM size. • Precise mode reads Chrome's own performance counters for real main-thread CPU time and a live JS heap. While it's on, Chrome shows a "started debugging this browser" bar. That's expected, and it goes away when you turn the mode off or close the dashboard. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Everything is computed locally and thrown away when the dashboard closes. No accounts, no analytics, no network requests. The measuring script is added only to the tab you're watching, and only while you're watching it. LIMITS • Chrome doesn't let extensions inspect chrome:// pages or the Chrome Web Store. • Background tabs don't render, so FPS is empty for them. • Cross-origin downloads count toward network only if the server sends Timing-Allow-Origin. Built for web developers chasing performance problems, and for anyone who wants to know which tab is making the fan spin.
