Tab Nap

Automatically suspend inactive tabs to free RAM. Clean, private, no tracking.

Too many tabs? Tab Nap puts the ones you're not using to sleep, so Chrome stays fast and your RAM and battery last longer. Tab Nap automatically suspends tabs you haven't touched for a while. A suspended tab stays in your tab bar exactly where you left it, and reloads the moment you click it. Nothing is closed and nothing is lost. FEATURES - Auto-suspend: inactive tabs are suspended after a delay you choose (default 10 minutes) - Smart protection: pinned tabs, tabs playing audio, and the tab you're currently on are never suspended (each can be switched on or off) - Badge counter: see at a glance how many tabs are suspended - One-click controls: suspend all inactive tabs now, or reload all suspended tabs at once - Quick on/off toggle in the popup - Lightweight: it checks once a minute and does nothing the rest of the time PRIVATE BY DESIGN - No tracking, no analytics, no ads - No data is sent to any server - It never reads the content of your pages - Your settings are saved through Chrome's built-in storage, which may sync across your signed-in Chrome browsers - Built on Manifest V3, Chrome's current extension platform WHY TAB NAP? Many tab suspenders have disappeared or changed hands over the years. Tab Nap is a small, transparent extension that does one thing and does it well. HOW IT WORKS Tab Nap uses Chrome's built-in tab discarding. When a tab is discarded, Chrome releases the memory it was using, and reloads the page when you return to it. Tab Nap simply decides when to do that for you. PERMISSIONS EXPLAINED - tabs: to see which tabs are inactive, pinned, or playing audio, and to suspend them - storage: to save your settings - alarms: to run the once-a-minute check SUPPORT Tab Nap is free. If it saves you from tab chaos and you'd like to say thanks, there's a "Buy me a coffee" link in the popup and settings page. Tips are never required. Found a bug or have a feature idea?
