Overview

Ctrl+click links into lazy tabs: they appear in the tab strip immediately but don't load until you click them.

Tab Lazy Loader lets you ctrl+click (or middle-click) a link into a tab that appears in your tab strip immediately but does not load until you actually switch to it. It applies only to links you opt in by URL pattern, so the rest of your browsing is completely unaffected. WHY Opening a dozen background tabs to "read later" costs a dozen page loads: memory, bandwidth, autoplaying video, analytics beacons, and paywall counters that tick whether or not you ever read the page. A lazy tab costs none of that until you open it. HOW IT WORKS 1. Add a URL pattern in the options page, for example: example.com *.example.com/reports/* re:^https://app\.example\.com/(foo|bar) 2. Ctrl+click (cmd+click on macOS) or middle-click a matching link. 3. The tab appears with the link's title and icon, but nothing loads. 4. Click the tab when you're ready. It loads then, and only then. Links that don't match your patterns behave exactly like normal Chrome. ALSO - Right-click any link and choose "Open link in lazy tab" as a manual override, whether or not it matches a pattern. - Pattern changes take effect immediately, without reloading open pages. - Settings follow you across profiles if Chrome Sync is on. - Global on/off switch. PRIVACY No data collection of any kind. No analytics, no telemetry, no network requests. Your pattern list stays in Chrome's own extension storage. Nothing ever leaves your browser. NOTE Until you activate a lazy tab, its address bar shows an internal extension URL rather than the destination. This is a Chrome limitation: unlike Firefox, Chrome provides no way to create a tab in an already-unloaded state. The real URL is restored the moment you open the tab.
