Overview

Arc-like hibernate for Chrome tab groups. First close sleeps the tab and resets to its original URL.

Miss Arc’s “close once to hibernate” behavior? Tab Hibernate brings it to Chrome tab groups. HOW IT WORKS • Put tabs in a Chrome tab group • Close a grouped tab once → it hibernates (stops running) instead of disappearing • Hibernate resets to the tab’s original URL (e.g. YouTube homepage, not the video you were on) • Click or focus the hibernated tab to wake it • Close the hibernated tab again to remove it for good • Tabs not in a group close normally IMPORTANT QUIRK Chrome does not tell extensions whether you closed a single tab or used “Close group.” Those look identical when a group has only one tab. To avoid recreating a duplicate group, Tab Hibernate only hibernates when at least one other tab remains in the group: • Close a tab while siblings stay in the group → hibernates • Close the last tab in a group → closes for real (group ends) • Close group → closes for real (no hibernate) Tip: keep 2+ tabs in a group when you want Arc-style hibernate. On Mac, closing the last tab in a window also closes the window — that’s normal Chrome behavior, not the extension. WHY IT’S USEFUL Keep your group as a set of “homes” for sites you revisit — browse deep, close, and land back on the starting page next time — without losing the tab slot in the group. PRIVACY Tab Hibernate runs entirely on your device. It does not send your browsing data to a server. See the privacy policy linked on this store page. NOTES Chrome does not allow extensions to intercept the tab close button directly, so Tab Hibernate recreates a lightweight hibernate page in the same group. You may notice a brief flicker when hibernating.
