Overview

Renames untitled or generic tab groups with a name that says what they are about, keeping the group status marker.

Tab groups created automatically by other extensions all end up with the same generic title. After three or four of them, they are impossible to tell apart. Tab Group Namer renames them into something readable: • it reads the task name from the URL fragment (#cg=Name), when whoever opens the tabs passes one; • otherwise it derives the name from the tabs in the group: the query of a search, the title of a document, the repository name, the domain of the first page — skipping sign-in pages, which say nothing useful; • it preserves the status marker the originating extension puts in front of the title, replacing only the generic word; • it numbers duplicates, so two groups never end up with the same name; • it never touches a group you titled yourself, and it stops following a group the moment you rename it by hand. From the popup you can rename the active tab's group, save a domain to name rule, or turn the extension off without uninstalling it. No data leaves your browser: no network, no account, no tracking.
