Tab Debt Manager

Finds tabs you stopped using, archives them out of the way, and restores them when you want. Rules decide what is safe.

Tabs accumulate. You keep them because you might need them, and after a while you have sixty and cannot find the one you actually want. Tab Debt Manager tracks when you last used each tab. When a tab goes untouched for longer than your threshold it is marked stale. You can archive it — the tab closes and its title and URL are saved — and reopen it from the archive whenever you want. WHAT IT DOES - Tracks the last time you activated or navigated each tab, and marks tabs stale once they pass your threshold. The default is 24 hours; the slider goes from 1 hour to a week. - Shows the stale count on the toolbar badge. - Three views in the popup: All Tabs (searchable, as a flat list or grouped by domain), Stale, and Archived. - Archive one tab or all stale tabs at once. Archiving closes the tab and saves its title, URL, favicon, and when you last used it. - Restore any archived tab in one click. It reopens in the background so it does not steal your focus. - Search the archive. - Jump straight to any open tab from the All Tabs list. - "Keep" resets a tab's timer. "Keep alive" adds that URL to a permanent never-archive list. WHAT NEVER GETS ARCHIVED By default, pinned tabs, the tab you are looking at, and chrome:// pages are always skipped. On top of that you can set: - Allowlisted domains — never archive anything on these. - Keyword rules — never archive tabs whose title or URL contains a word you specify. - Tab group awareness — never archive tabs sitting in a named Chrome tab group. On by default. - Category thresholds — give different kinds of sites different timeouts. Four categories ship with sensible defaults (social media 2h, news 4h, video 3h, docs and tools 72h), all switched off until you enable them, and you can add your own. - Frequency scoring — optional. Tabs you return to often get a longer grace period, up to a multiplier you choose. AUTO-ARCHIVE Off by default. Turn it on and stale tabs are archived automatically every 15 minutes. Leave it off and nothing closes without you clicking. BACKUP Export your archive to a JSON file, import one back, or clear it entirely from the settings page. PRIVACY Tab Debt Manager reads tab metadata — the title, URL, favicon, pinned state, and tab group of your open tabs — because that is what it has to compare against your rules and what it needs to reopen a tab later. It does not read the contents of any page. There is no content script in this extension; no code of ours runs inside a web page. Nothing is transmitted. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Your archive, your settings, and the activity timestamps live in chrome.storage.local on your own computer, and uninstalling removes them.
