Tab Brain is an intelligent browser tab manager that uses on-device artificial intelligence to help you search, organize, and focus across all your open tabs. No cloud servers, no data collection, no API keys required. Everything runs locally in your browser using state-of-the-art machine learning models. Semantic Tab Search Find any tab instantly by describing what you are looking for in plain language. Tab Brain uses natural language understanding to match your query against the actual content of your open pages, not just titles or URLs. Search for concepts, topics, or ideas and get ranked results with relevance scores. Focus Mode Tell Tab Brain what you are working on and it will automatically organize your browser tabs into visible groups. Relevant tabs are grouped and expanded for easy access while unrelated tabs are collapsed out of sight. End Focus Mode at any time to restore your tabs to their original state. Focus Mode uses the Chrome tab groups API to create real, visible groups directly in your tab bar. Tab Brain detects duplicate tabs, identifies pages with similar content that could be consolidated, and flags tabs that have been open for extended periods. Take action on suggestions with one click to close duplicates or review old tabs. Live Indexing Status A built-in progress bar shows real-time indexing status as Tab Brain processes your open tabs. Watch as each tab is analyzed and added to the local search index. The status bar updates automatically and shows the number of indexed tabs out of your total open tabs. Privacy First Architecture Tab Brain processes everything locally on your device. The AI models run entirely within your browser using WebAssembly and the Transformers.js library. Your tab content, search queries, and browsing data never leave your computer. There are no external API calls, no cloud processing, and no data transmission of any kind. Each tab's content is converted into a numerical vector representation that captures its semantic meaning. When you search or activate Focus Mode, your query is compared against these vectors to find the most relevant matches. Classification is handled by a separate zero-shot model that can assign categories without any pre-training on your specific data. Technical Details Tab Brain is built with the Plasmo framework using React and TypeScript. It uses the BGE small English embedding model for semantic search and similarity matching, and a MobileBERT-based classifier for automatic categorization. All models are quantized for fast performance and small download size. The extension requires the tabs, scripting, storage, sessions, side panel, and tab groups permissions to function.
