Tab Bench
Overview
Group tabs with Chrome's on-device AI. Review and edit the proposal, put idle tabs to sleep, and close tabs you no longer need.
Tab Bench suggests groups for your open tabs. Check the names and tabs, make changes, then apply the groups. You can also search open tabs, close tabs you select, or put idle tabs to sleep. The interface supports English and Japanese, following Chrome's display language. AI group names are requested in that language. Original tab titles and names you edit are not translated. What you can do - Group tabs: Get suggestions based on titles and parts of URLs. Edit group names and uncheck tabs before applying. Unchecked and unclassified tabs stay as they are. - Keep existing groups: Leave already grouped tabs out of new suggestions. This is on by default. - Review a suggestion: Optionally ask the built-in AI to reconsider the first draft for mixed topics, split groups and missed tabs. If it changes the draft, compare and choose between the two. Review uses the same model and does not guarantee a better result. - Search: Find tabs by title or URL, or describe what you are looking for with AI search. - Close selected tabs: Check a preview before closing. Active, pinned, audio-playing and protected tabs, among others, are left open. No saved list is created. - Put tabs to sleep: Release unused pages from memory without closing their tabs. Active and frequently used tabs, among others, are excluded. Automatic sleep is off by default and only operates on sites you specify when enabled. Protect a tab to leave it out when grouping, closing or putting tabs to sleep. Protection is kept for the current session and is cleared if you remove it, close the tab, restart Chrome, or reload, update or disable the extension. AI and your data AI processing uses Gemini Nano, built into Chrome. Inference runs on your device. Tab Bench does not send tab information to an external AI service or switch to one if the local model is unavailable. It does not read page bodies or form fields. AI does not decide which tabs to close or put to sleep automatically. A small set of preferences is saved locally. Tab usage records, protected-tab settings, automatic-sleep site names and recent sleep results are held in Chrome's session memory. They clear when Chrome restarts or the extension is reloaded, updated or disabled. Automatic sleep then returns to off; set allowed sites and protected tabs again when needed. This version does not create saved-tab lists. If you used an earlier development version, existing lists are an exception: their names, titles and full URLs remain in local storage without extension-level encryption until you delete them. A migration section lets you reopen or delete those lists. Reopening them does not delete the stored lists. The extension does not use analytics or cloud storage. Chrome's native tab groups follow Chrome's own sync settings, so turn off tab and tab-group sync before grouping. The extension cannot check or change these settings. Chrome may connect to the internet to download or update its model. Reloading sleeping tabs or reopening old saved tabs also makes normal requests to their websites. Before you use it - Requires Chrome 138 or later. AI availability depends on your device, model readiness and browser management policies. - The tab list, keyword search, protection, closing and sleep features work without AI. Each AI operation supports up to 100 tabs. - Closing or sleeping tabs does not save unsaved input. Sleeping pages reload when reopened. Save your work or protect tabs you are editing. - Memory savings vary by page and Chrome's state. Applying groups can change tab order and, if you choose to regroup existing groups, membership. There is no full undo. - For workplace use, check your organization's requirements. Published by uniale. Contact: yuichi.s77@gmail.com.
