Because SwitchChat is privacy-first, this feature is completely optional and opt-in. To turn it on, follow these simple steps: ### How to Turn It On: 1. Click the **SwitchChat extension icon** in your browser's toolbar to open the settings menu. 2. Toggle the switch next to **"Enable BTTV & 7TV Emotes"** to **On**. 3. A standard browser prompt will appear asking for permission to access the emote APIs (`api.betterttv.net`, `api.7tv.app`, and `api.ivr.fi`). Click **Allow / Grant**. 4. Refresh your active YouTube stream tab. > ℹ️ **Why does it ask for permissions?** > To protect your privacy, SwitchChat doesn't request access to external websites by default when you install it. When you turn emotes on, the browser asks for permission so our background script can safely fetch the custom emoji configurations directly from the official, open-source BetterTTV and 7TV databases.
