SVEN is a Chrome extension that translates subtitles in real time across streaming platforms — right inside the video player, with no tab switching required. Designed for non-native speakers and language learners, SVEN detects on-screen subtitles as they appear and renders the translation directly in the player using a clean, customizable overlay. SVEN is built primarily for Swedish streaming services including SVT Play, TV4 Play, and UR Play, and also supports Pluto TV and YouTube. For a full list of supported platforms, visit our website. Translation modes: • V2 (API Key) — Simple setup using your Google Cloud Translation API key. Supports multiple keys with automatic fallback if one hits a rate limit. • V3 (Service Account) — Advanced mode using Google Cloud service account credentials with JWT signing for higher quotas and professional usage. Key features: • Real-time subtitle detection • Smart session caching to avoid redundant API calls for repeated text • Race-condition prevention so only the latest translation is displayed • Adjustable font size updated live across all active tabs • Soft Dark and Sepia theme options • Platform-specific handling for each streaming service's subtitle system • Built on Manifest V3 for performance and security SVEN does not collect or store your subtitle text. All translation requests go directly from your browser to the Google Cloud Translation API using your own credentials. Settings are stored locally in the extension. To get started, open the extension settings, add your Google Cloud Translation API key or service account JSON, and begin watching with subtitles enabled on a supported platform.
