Learn languages while browsing with sentence-by-sentence translations below the original text.

SurfSub helps you practise a language while reading content you enjoy. On supported pages, it places each translation below the corresponding original sentence, so you can compare the two without switching to a separate translation app. It works with supported social posts, discussions, news, reference articles and public information pages. Choose which source languages to translate, your target language and the translation color. Turn translation off at any time to return to the original page. Feed views may translate titles only, while supported article and discussion pages also translate body text or comments. When a suitable website translation is available, SurfSub uses it first. Otherwise, it uses Chrome’s on-device translation capability. Local translations run in your browser. SurfSub does not send page text to a developer-operated translation server or save page content persistently. Preferences are saved using Chrome sync storage. Website-provided translations are subject to the respective website’s data policies. Requires desktop Chrome 138 or later. A language pack may need to download on first use. Choose a target language different from the source language; following the website’s language may skip translation. Page coverage and translation quality vary.
