Overview
Auto-enable YouTube captions or keep them off across videos. Detect burned-in subtitles locally and handle duplicate captions.
YouTube captions, on or off—without adjusting them for every video. Prefer watching with captions? Automatically turn on an available YouTube caption track. Prefer watching without them? Keep captions off as you move between videos. Set your preference once, or choose to follow YouTube. subtitle.im is a Chrome extension that detects burned-in subtitles locally and handles duplicate captions separately. Your caption preferences • Automatically turn captions on when a track is available. • Keep captions off, even when you switch videos. This mode does not run subtitle detection. • Follow YouTube if you prefer its usual caption behavior. Duplicate-caption handling remains a separate choice. • Change your mind anytime: use YouTube CC or the C key. Your manual choice takes priority for this viewing; the next video or a reload uses your saved settings again. Pro supports video and channel rules, which take priority over your global preference. Avoid two layers of subtitles When a video already contains burned-in subtitles, subtitle.im can turn off duplicate YouTube captions according to your settings. If the two use different languages, choose to turn captions off automatically, ask first, or keep them visible. Keep them if you want to read both languages. You can restore captions anytime. Detection runs locally in your browser. Subtitle styles and video quality can affect accuracy; when duplicate detection finds insufficient evidence, captions stay on. Works on YouTube video watch pages in desktop Chrome. It does not remove burned-in text or generate, translate, or download subtitles. Privacy and diagnostics Recognition runs locally: video frames and subtitle text are not uploaded. If you explicitly choose to upload a diagnostic report, it contains sanitized operational logs, relevant video identifiers, browser/system information, an anonymous installation identifier, and device authorization status. Reports exclude video frames, subtitle text, email addresses and credentials. The interface supports Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Arabic, and Hindi.
