Subtitle Overlay: Add subtitles to videos and movies

Overlay subtitles on any video from a file or URL, with sync offset and font controls. Only requests access to the current site.

Subtitle Overlay lets you add your own subtitles to any video playing in your browser — no need for the site to support captions, and no need to re-encode or download the video. Load a subtitle file or paste a link, and it overlays right on top of the video, in sync, styled the way you like. WHY INSTALL THIS Most "add subtitle" extensions ask for permission to read and change every website you visit, the moment you install them. Subtitle Overlay doesn't. It requests access only to the specific site you're on, only when you choose to enable it there — you'll see Chrome's own permission prompt scoped to that one domain, not a blanket "read and change all your data on all websites" warning. If you no longer want it on a site, revoke access with one click and the overlay is removed. WHAT IT DOES • Load subtitles from a direct URL, or upload a local file • Supports the standard formats: .srt, .vtt (WebVTT), and .ass/.ssa • Works on any page with a regular HTML5 <video> element — not tied to one streaming site • Sync offset controls (+1s, +0.5s, -0.5s, -1s, or a precise custom value) to correct subtitles that are ahead of or behind the audio • Full appearance customization: font family, size, text color, background color and opacity, position (top or bottom), and an optional text outline for readability on bright scenes • A small floating control panel appears on the page itself (not buried in a popup that closes every time you click away), so you can adjust sync and styling while the video keeps playing — drag it out of the way, or close it with one click • If the video already has its own built-in captions turned on, Subtitle Overlay automatically hides them while your subtitles are active, so you don't get two overlapping captions at once • Your font/color/size preferences are remembered across sessions, so you don't have to reconfigure them every time HOW IT WORKS 1. Open any page with a video and click the Subtitle Overlay icon 2. Click "Enable on this site" and approve the one-time permission prompt for that domain 3. Paste a subtitle URL or upload a file 4. Open the on-page controls to fine-tune sync timing and appearance PRIVACY Subtitle Overlay does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data, browsing history, or video content. It only ever accesses the specific site you explicitly grant it access to, and only fetches the subtitle URL you provide (again with a scoped, one-time permission request). There is no tracking, no analytics, and no data leaves your browser except the subtitle file request you initiate yourself.
